What I mean by that is the versatility of the dishes I make for my family - you can use my recipes as starting guides to add what ever you have in your kitchen to make them delicious and something your family will enjoy!
Chop your onion and garlic while the meat is cooking. I used the pre-minced garlic in a jar.
After the venison is browned add the remaining ingredients.
- Sprinkle in 2 Tablespoons of Chili Powder
- 1 Tbsp Cumin powder
- add in the onion and garlic (you can add more or less, or season to taste, for any of these).
- Stir together these ingredients and then add the canned items.
- Pour in the tomato juice and canned beans, give that a good stir. (Drain and rinse the Kidney beans prior to adding).
Bring it to a boil, give it a stir and then turn the heat down to a medium-low setting, giving it just enough heat to gently bubble the top (see 3rd picture below).
You may place a lid on the pot, leaving an opening for the steam to escape, to stop any splattering (that generally shouldn't happen unless the heat is too high). I stir my chili every 20 minutes since the meat and beans settle on the bottom the of pot.
Let simmer for 3 hours. I usually start this about 3 pm and we can eat at 6 pm. Adjust accordingly.
Once the chili has reduced and cooked to your liking, scoop it into a bowl, top with shredded cheese!
Optional: add sour cream and mustard. I love mustard on my chili, think chili dogs, it's delicious! As you can see in the pictures, I added corn to mine, I love to eat as many veggies as I can! Adding noodles would be a great idea too!

Also making chili allows you to add anything your heart desires! Try adding:
Canned Tomatoes, Corn, Celery, Peppers, Hot Peppers (i.e. Jalapenos), Red Pepper Flakes, just about any ingredient goes into chili! Add whole grain noodles for a complete meal! YUM! The options are endless!
Believe me, I would add more to mine if my husband allowed. :) He likes it the way I am writing about it. Simple and plain. Although we used to make it much spicier before having kids, by using the hot version of all the ingredients.
